Ceramic Sculptures
During the production journey of the BOYS series, the artist encountered several challenging situations where models seemed to have had different expectations or interpretations regarding the project's essence, subsequently imposing restrictions on the publication of their photographs. To convey her vision to her audience, Daniela Torres turned to earthenware as a medium for conceptualizing these withdrawn images. Though the photographs have been removed, these ceramic objects now stand as substitutes, offering a whole new experience in the transference of her photographic series' intent.
By conceptualizing her personal experiences and transforming them into sculptures, the artist demonstrates how often born from adversities, these experiences serve as the driving force for self-therapy, where her craft becomes a vessel for transmuting painful memories into objects of profound beauty.
Ceramic Dick Sculpture Workshops
Within the intimate confines of her Alt-Moabit art studio, Daniela Torres extends her artistic practice beyond solitary creation, facilitating interactive workshops that invite participants from diverse backgrounds to engage in dialogue on masculinity.
In her "Ceramic Dick Sculpture" workshops, attendees are encouraged to sculpt phallic forms inspired by their individual experiences, offering a symbolic avenue for catharsis and the exploration of innermost frustrations or desires. Beyond the tactile act of creation, these workshops foster open conversations aimed at dismantling entrenched notions of masculinity, paving the way for a more inclusive and empathetic understanding of gender identity.
The workshops were documented as a short film directed by Johanna Gustin called ‘Dicks That I Like’ which premiered at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and went on to screen at numerous festivals, including Slamdance, Palm Springs International ShortFest, HollyShorts, and the Calgary International Film Festival. In February 2024 was officially online premiered by Vimeo Staff Pick.
